Maybe the fedupfeds site could have a feelgood spot. . . kind of a chicken soup for
the soul place. . . to lift us up when we get low.
-- Erin
(Good idea; let's have suggestions. But from what we've
seen on the list, the info and support from many others is the most help to those lost in
FECALand -- to borrow Barb's term )

While we're busy trying
to change the system and reform the laws, and make the world a better place to live for
everybody, we can also DO THOSE THINGS, POSSIBLE RIGHT NOW, SUCH AS: email our district
OWCP Office, Check out our Physician's Medical Credentials, Read every area and link of
FedUpFeds Website, ask questions among our co-workers and fellow list members, keep
an open mind, not martyr ourselves by "refusing our employers,"
. . . There is enough useful information on this list, even with a
"flawed system" and "corrupt employers," that an injured federal
employee can hope to AVOID MOST or MANY of the PITFALLS in becoming injured at work. There
is no reason that anyone should suffer more,
once they do the things I previously suggested, that are free, at no cost, and given from
the heart. Much of this information came from needless pain and suffering and should be
given the consideration it is due for this reason. There is more GOOD STUFF AVAILABLE HERE
AT AN AFFORDABLE PRICE THAN ANYWHERE ELSE AN INJURED FEDERAL EMPLOYEE CAN GO. . .
EITHER WAY:.........I TOLD YOU SO!!

It was a
doc's fraud that sent me spinning and terminated. 5 minutes of non-examination
and a 15 page report-paid $1500 plus. He was obviously used over and over again
because he was willing to sell himself for OWCP's benefit-get rid of me. OWCP was so
assured of this doc's talents they sent me to him again after 2nd injury. . . A CE called
me and told me that I was going to be sent "back" to Dr. Benjamin Cox and would
be terminated AGAIN. Pretty sure of the good ole doc, right?!
. . . But who really IS liable here? OWCP chose to sift thru his OPINION and pick
the weight they needed to terminate. THEY were ultimately responsible. He was under
their umbrella. In a real world setting, OWCP would be sued . . . His and others'
continual adverse opinions should be put out there for a medical board, court, licensing
agency to investigate and punish. Their licenses should be yanked and burned.
HOWEVER, this is a concentrated effort that would require so much money, lawyers
just won't take it- malpractice insurance- that good ole OPINION doctrine- I think
everyone is saying concentrate on the umbrella!!

Okay guys, we're rolling.....Congressman Bilirakis's office in Land O
Lakes at 10:00 am on Monday and Congressman Davis's office in Tampa at 2:00 pm on Monday.
We are addressing problems with the USPS and OWCP so if anyone else wants to come
with us - like Nike says - Just Do It.
. . .So far there are three of us, all with well documented and
serious problems. If there is anyone who can't go but would like us to submit a
statement regarding their problems it would be helpful. Our strength is going to be
in showing repeated problems of the same nature. We don't want to look like
disgruntled people but rather as the a representation of many people who have suffered at
the hands of Jacksonville OWCP and the USPS. . .
I will take a copy of the survey results.

. . . just say I don't trust anyone including unions to know what
injured workers need, and then to do it and make it right -- except injured workers
themselves. That's YOU. I want them to listen to YOU and get behind YOU.
For all the reasons you give ;-)

Has anyone had problems with Comp. sending you to doctors who are not certified to
evaluate your condition. This was done to me by the Federal Employees Worker's Comp office
in Cleveland, Oh. My own, certified, doctor tried to look up this guy's credentials for
evaluating my illness and he didn't have any. This doctor didn't even appear to have any
patients. He evaluates lots of cases for Comp. I think that he helps them deny the cases
so he can keep their business. When he tested me, it was pretty clear that he really
didn't know what he was doing. He left out a lot of tests. He even did some wrong. (I had
done them before) But this was Comp's "expert"
To me, when I look at the whole picture, I would say the
Cleveland Worker's Comp. office is running some kind of rackett. They need the denials
because thats what they are rated by, how many claims they deny. The doctor depends on
their business, so he'll find a way to deny. Even if it means fudging.

. . . fear of retribution in contacting congress is the least of
your problems. If OWCP has you in its sights, you're already there. They will do anything
to achieve their objectives, once set, and that includes ignoring law, rule, regulation,
policy, and good management practice. ECAB can and will back them up, even if they have to
lie to do it. However, if your congressional delegation is alive, that will be amazing.
. . .anger won't get you anywhere except further from your family
members and anyone else who might be supportive. If it helps, you're not alone. OWCP's
action is not personal to you. You're in a large group of similarly attacked people.
People from whom the government of the United States has wrongfully stolen what by law is
rightfully ours. If it helps there's life after disability. You may not be able to work,
but there are things you can do. If it helps there's life after poverty. The key is
keeping yourself together and being able to find joy in life--despite the problems. The
one thing that OWCP cannot take from you--nor anyone else for that matter is your ability
to find joy in life--unless you permit it. Give them that and you lose. Keep that and you
ultimately win. After all that's what it's all about.

The bad thing about pain, is that it makes you very easily depressed . . . Chronic pain
and depression are like "married to each other". They go hand in hand. . . In
this list we are told to research things. I encourage others to research depression meds
and chronic pain. . . For whatever it takes, we have to be informed.
. . . For a long time I was really bitter about my injury, but
then I realized it was only hurting me and my family. I had to choose to make the most out
of my injury, find things in my life that I could do, and focus on those. For the longest
time I refused to think of my injury as permanent. I just wasn't going to accept it. But
thinking like that held back my emotional healing. . . I'm much more sensitive to
the plight of others, which I never was before. . . It took a long time for me to
say openly, that I'm partially disabled, I'm handicapped, I have a handicapped parking
permit, and I walk with a cane. But I don't look on the outward trappings anymore, its
whats inside that counts.

. . . I
have tried to calling other spinal specialists in the area, but they will not accept OWCP
cases. (I wonder why). I know that if I don't see a specialist, I will never have my case
accepted by OWCP. I'm melting............
what a world........what a world......what a world......

Left home when the May 3rd tornado took it out. Quit the PO, got a job with the
state University and working on a Doctorate. They don't seem to mind my
disability...and the PO was trying to remove me because I couldn't do anything! . .
. I understand that you are angry, frustrated, hurt, in pain, and probably over your head
in debt with medical bills. I, too, have been there . . . .
Along the way, I learned that being bitter made me old and
depressed. I gave it up and let go so that I could move on with my life. The
PO may have won the financial battle, I have won freedom and peace of mind. The PO
lost a good employee and we are both happy.

I am sick and tired of the way OWCP has treated my husband over the years. The last
straw was a recent ordered medical exam, where the physician skillfully neglected to
address the effects of the opiate agonist drugs my husband has to take daily for relief. .
. This physician also did not write any restriction whatsoever in a "return to
work" for my husband.
I also read where the Director of the OWCP (or some other) said
that the first agency consideration is "returning employees to work" and second
patient care and welfare. No wonder the OWCP is out to get you all back to work no
matter what the cost! With a directive like that, it is no wonder what is
going on. Even so, what they (OWCP) are doing is wrong, and I will not allow them to
do my husband in. If he gets locked up for driving all over the road, are they going
to get him out of jail? Will the expunge his driving record so he can keep
working? Suppose he hurts someone, will they take care of a lawsuit against us?
. . . I will not allow my husband to hurt himself or someone else because an uncaring
Government Agency with a spurious agenda says so.

. . . I have used this list for a lot of questions and have always benefited from the
advice given, just wanted to thank everyone for their help in these difficult
times. You all are a blessing and I thank you very much.

In 1997 I was at my lowest point. After all the years of fighting the AF/Government
and getting so much abuse and suffering & so much trauma from their abuse, I was
ignoring my family, friends and everything else. Because of my disabilities caused
at work I was and still am unable to throw off the stress in the way I always have, i.e.
heavy duty sports, dancing, gardening, housework, and artwork, as well as help
anyone else who needed me. I really did not know what stress was, and I had become a
virtual recluse. I did not leave my house; a lot of times I did not even get
dressed, just stared at the TV not even watching it. My writing had gone by the
wayside too, and I cried all the time because I was so angry and came to the conclusion I
would never beat the AF/government . . . In December of 1997 I was referred by a
psychologist who's practice consists of all government employees, to a psychologist who he
said understood "us" government employees and the trauma that had been inflicted
on us by our employer . . . I am not totally back to the person I used to be, or that my
family both here and back in England, or my friends knew, but they all have heard and seen
a great change back toward that person . . . believe me they will never beat me, nor will
they beat you or any one of us that stand up for what is right, and for what we are
entitled to as injured employees. I hope you can take comfort in this and know that one
day you will be at the point I have reached now. Take good care of yourself. .
